Cocktail Chic

Cocktail Attire has become more and more common these days but what exactly does that mean? My husband and I have been fortunate enough to attend many formal events over the years and the phrase “Cocktail Attire” has expanded to cover almost every type of event. As a result, finding the right cocktail dress can be a worthy investment.

When you are shopping for a cocktail dress there are many factors you need to keep in mind. You want to find a dress that makes you feel comfortable and that you can style in different ways. Ideally, the dress should become an investment piece and not just a one-time wear.

The little black dress is an obvious staple and one that everyone must have in their closet. Adding fun accessories to a day party or dramatic jewels to an evening soirée is an easy way to change up the look. Once you have that black dress, start to venture out to more bold colors. Remember, most women opt for the black dress, so if you want to make a statement, choose a vibrant cobalt blue or fire engine red. When you choose a vibrant dress, you can tone down the jewels and add a sexy heel instead.

Jay Godfrey designs amazing evening wear and I fell in love with this cocktail dress that I found at Meringue. The color and style are edgy and modern and the fit is incredible. I paired the dress with some classic Jimmy Choo patent leather pumps, a small Chanel bag and a Baume & Mercier wraparound bracelet watch. This look can be worn to practically any type of cocktail event and is a perfect staple to have in your closet.
