Flight

I’ve lived in Long Island for almost 10 years now and it seems that I’ve been living under a rock! I had no idea that Patchogue was “the” hot spot in Long Island! If you’ve been following my blog, or know me at all, my favorite way to eat is sharing. I love trying a little bit of everything. My friend was reading an article and found this new restaurant in Patchogue called Flight. Not only does this restaurant serve flights of wine, but they serve flights of food as well!  Once she told me about this restaurant, we grabbed the husbands and headed to Patchogue!

Flight is owned by James Bonanno and David Johnson. Bonanno and Johnson are no newbies when it comes to owning a restaurant. They also own the Tap Room which has locations in Patchogue and Massapequa. Upon seeing the success of the Tap Room and understanding the dynamics of Patchogue, they decided to open Flight. Flight’s menu is focused on the concept of sharing and experiencing a wide variety of flavors in both spirits and food.  Chef Tepper was a Las Vegas chef and is in charge of the food menu. Veteran mixologist Mark Seaman is the beverage director and creator of all specialty spirits. Together these two masterminds are sourcing their ingredients locally and focusing on small businesses to obtain the highest quality products.

For those who are unfamiliar with what a flight is – a flight is a pairing of like items (usually wine) which allows you to get a sampling of the nuances of depth and flavor within each item. I have been to many wine bars that offer flights but have never seen it done with food. Flight is the first of its kind to offer this concept in Long Island.

The menu at Flight is very clean and organized. It is broken into several categories – Small plates, Large Plates, Side Plates and Pizza Plates. Our waiter told us that all the plate sizes really varied depending on what you ordered. There were four of us so we wound up ordering quite a bit! Everything we ordered was flavorful, plated beautifully and did not take long for the kitchen to prepare. I would recommend ordering a couple of plates at a time so you are not overloaded and also so you can see how hungry you are throughout the meal. You can always order more!

Once we were done with our meal, we could see that Flight was getting ready to turn into an after hours hot spot. Next time we will get our babysitter to stay a little later so we could party and pretend we are still hip for a minute!
