2018 Top Holiday Toys

Working in the toy industry for 7 years, one of the most important things I learned was to shop the holiday toys EARLY! Everything should be on shelves at this point, so if there is a toy you know your child is going to want, buy it NOW!

With Toys”R”US closed, a lot of people are left unsure about what the hottest toys are going to be this year. To try to help you on your search, I combed the web to create a list of what I think are going to be the hottest toys for this holiday season.

1. Fisher-Price Imaginext Jurassic World Jurassic Rex

Experts say that this is the year of the dinosaur. If that’s the case, this is one toy that your kids are going to love! The Jurassic Rex has color-changing, light-up eyes and a mouth that glows red! What I like about this toy is that it comes with a car and character, which allows for the child to create their own imaginative adventure story!

2. furReal Munchin' Rex

Staying with the dinosaur theme is this super cute baby dinosaur. Children get to feed the dinosaur different foods but he can be very picky with what he wants to eat. Sound familiar? I like the role reversal and maybe this will make our kids better eaters? Wishful thinking I know!

3. Little Live Pets Scruff-A-Luv

The Little Live Pets Scruff-A-Luv is already a super hot item this season! I found this product in 2 different stores, so hopefully you will be able to find it at 1 of them! The Little Live Pets Scruff-A-Luv arrives as a sad ball of matted fur, but once you bath them, dry them, brush them and love them, you will discover what kind of pet they really are! I love the concept of rescuing an animal and I think it is so fun to watch the toy transform right in front of your eyes.

4. Pomsies Pom Pom Pet - Patches

Pomsies are a collection of loveable, wearable virtual pom pom pets you can take anywhere you go!  Their eyes light up and change color to express their mood - hungry, sneezy, silly, or super happy! Pomsies remind me of the hatchimal concept, but with softer, prettier fur!

5. L.O.L. Surprise! Doll Bigger Surprise

If you’re children are anything like mine, they are obsessed with LOL’s. I must admit, I’m a little obsessed myself. I love the surprise of not knowing what is going to be wrapped in those little balls. I already purchased my LOL Surprise! Doll Bigger Surprise the minute I saw it at the store. You know this is going to sell out FAST, so if you see one, grab it NOW!!

6. L.O.L. Surprise! Under Wraps Doll

Staying on the LOL product line, the L.O.L. Surprise! Under Wraps Doll is also a super hot new item. We have a couple of these in the house already and they are extremely hard to find in stores. What I like about this product is that you need to discover the codes to open all the secret compartments. The capsule is a great package that you can continue to use after you are done finding all the pieces.

7. Ryan's World Target Exclusive Giant Egg Surprise

My child can almost always be found watching Ryan’s Toys Review on his iPad, so I know he is going to be so excited for this product. Ryan’s Toy Review is a huge hit on YouTube with many children tuning in to watch him open toys. Now your child can pretend to be just like Ryan and maybe they will actually play with their toys instead of just watching!

8. Hatchimals, HatchiBabies

The HatchiBabies are similar to its predecessor - Hatchimals - in the fact they come in an egg and the child gets to be amazed as the HatchiBaby breaks out of it’s shell. How the toy differs is that the HatchiBaby comes with accessories for more interactive play. Your child can use the accessories to feed, burp, tickle and snuggle the HatchiBaby and they’ll respond – just like a real baby!

9. Hexbug VEX Robotics Boxing Bots RC Construction Kit

Rock N Sock Em Robots meet New Age Technology with this very cool construction kit. Using snap-together pieces, these "smart-tech" self-stabilizing fighters are ready to rumble! The robots works with the VEX Pilot App which will allow your child and a friend to control the robots' every action.

10. Crayola Color Chemistry Set for Kids

The Crayola® Color Chemistry Set is perfect for your budding scientist. The set includes a booklet that shows them how to do 50 colorful science-y activities. The set comes with enough materials to do 16 of those activities, as well as, volcano science projects. This set will be perfect during those cold weather months when you are looking to keep your little ones entertained indoors!

11. Air Hogs Supernova Orb

The Air Hogs Supernova is the one toy that I am most excited about! You can completely control the orb with your hands - no remote control needed! The Supernova has an intelligent on-board system that has motion sensitive lights and sensors that respond to you! You can launch it, push it and spin it without a single touch! Simply toss the Supernova to launch and it will levitate mid-air. This reminds me of the Stars Wars scene when Luke was learning how to use his light saber! Very futuristic!

12. Kano Harry Potter Coding Kit

We all know that coding is the future and when you can give your child a toy where they can play and learn, there is no better combination. The Harry Potter Coding Kit allows your child to build a wand that responds to their movements. Your child will learn to code through step-by-step creative challenges. Some examples are to make feathers fly, goblets multiply, fire flow, pumpkins grow, and more.

13. LEGO Super Heroes App-Controlled Batmobile

I’ve seen Lego kits that allow you to build a Batmobile, and I’ve seen a Batmobilethat you can control via remote, but I’ve never seen a toy that allows you to do both. The Lego Super Heroes App-Controlled Batmobile has taken 2 popular play patterns and combined them to make this super fun toy. I like that there is continued play with this toy and that the child has the power from the beginning to create what their Batmobile is going to look like.

14.Nintendo Switch

The Nintendo Switch is a perfect gift for anyone in your family - kids or adults! My husband plays with the switch almost as much as my kids do (if not more)! The Switch can be played at home, or on the go - and with a multitude of game cards to choose from, this is one gift that you can be sure will keep your child’s interest long past the holidays.
