Whales Tale - Northport, NY

I first discovered Whales Tale last summer when a family friend suggested we take the kids there for dinner. I had never heard of it before and if my friend didn’t tell me about it, I don’t know if I would’ve ever found it! Whales Tale is hidden behind the Britannia Marina and there is only a small sign that lets you know you are in the right place.

Whales Tale is a laid-back restaurant with a beautiful view of the water. All of their ingredients are fresh and locally sourced. Whales Tale recently updated their menu and is now focusing heavily on taco dishes. My daughter is a huge taco fan, so we decided to head over to Whales Tale to check out the latest offerings.

We went there during the week for lunch, so we actually got a table right away. Most of the time there is a wait, so be prepared to keep the kids busy until your table is ready.

The taco menu looked amazing to me but wasn’t really what I had in mind for my daughter. The flavor profiles were pretty intense for a little one. Thankfully they had a cheeseburger on the menu so we just ordered some taco shells on the side and made a beef and cheese taco. She was very happy which allowed me to focus on my delicious tacos.

I wanted to try a range of what Whales Tale had to offer, so I ordered the Korean Steak, Cauliflower, and Crispy Fish Tacos.

The first taco I tried was the Korean Steak. The steak was beautifully marinated in ginger and the temperature was just right. One of the main reasons I ordered this dish was because of the kimchi slaw. The kimchi slaw added a wonderful texture and crunch to the dish.

Next up was the Cauliflower Taco. I am not usually a big fan of cauliflower but the description on the menu was so interesting that I had to try it. The cauliflower was cooked in a delicious chipotle pesto sauce that completely transformed the cauliflower. One of my favorite elements of this taco was the pico de gallo. The pico de gallo added a nice level of acidity to balance out the flavors.

Last but certainly not least was the Crispy Fish Taco. I would have to say that out of all three tacos, the Crispy Fish was my favorite. Although the fish was fried, it was still light and flaky. The 3-chili spread added a little heat but was not overpowering.

In addition to the tacos,  I needed to try the Mexican Street Corn. This is the best street corn I have ever had! The melted cotija cheese and red pepper flakes were an amazing combination and complimented each other nicely.

Whales Tale is a gem in Northport, but with flavors this good, it will not be able to stay hidden much longer!
