Neraki Greek Mediterranean Grill - Huntington, NY

Huntington Village is home to amazing restaurants and shopping. In this little town, one can find everything from upscale restaurants, to more casual type dining. I will have many posts attributed to the town of Huntington because there is really no other town in Long Island quite like it.

The first restaurant I am featuring is a small authentic Greek restaurant located on Main Street. When I walked in, I was greeted with Greek music playing and a warm Mediterranean décor. The walls are covered with wood and beautiful Greek paintings along the wall. One of my favorite décor features was the sky painted ceiling.

Neraki opened in May 2001 by Chef Alex Moschos and his wife Olga. Alex previously worked at Elias Corner, which is a well-known seafood restaurant in Astoria, Queens.

I was shopping at a local boutique in Huntington when I stumbled upon Neraki. Neraki offers a daily lunch special for $11.95.  I ordered the whole-wheat Neraki pizza, which is served with your choice of fresh homemade soup or a Greek salad. I selected the soup which was Avgolemono.

Avgolemono consists of eggs, lemon and hot broth. This is a classic combination in Greek cooking. Many times, when I order this dish it is very heavy, thick and the lemon flavor can be overpowering. Neraki’s version was the complete opposite. It was light and had just the right amount of lemon flavor.

The Neraki pizza is a whole-wheat pita topped with sautéed spinach, crumbled feta, tomato and Kalamata olives. It is served with humus on the side.  The Neraki pizza was not only beautiful to look at but was equally delicious to eat. The flavor combinations balanced each other beautifully. The crunch in the pita was a perfect comparison to the softness of the ingredients served on top. The Kalamata olives and feta brought a nice saltiness to the dish and enhanced the flavor of the spinach.  Adding the humus gave the Neraki pizza a lovely creaminess and different flavoring to change up the pizza from one bite to the next.

Neraki has many other items on the menu that sounded amazing and I will have to make another visit to try them all!
