Nicky's On the Bay - Bay Shore, NY
Spring is the unofficial beginning of the outdoor dining season. After being stuck indoors for several months, sitting outside and enjoying a nice meal is exactly what I'm looking for in a restaurant.
Nicky's on the Bay is one of my top picks for an outdoor dining experience. I’ve been dining at Nicky’s on the Bay for over 8 years. Within the last two years, Nicky’s on the Bay has undergone a complete transformation and the results are amazing!
The original Nicky’s on the Bay was a no frills, basic outdoor dining restaurant offering delicious seafood cuisine. The way the restaurant was situated on the water, diners received beautiful views in a laid back relaxed setting. Over two years ago, Nick (the owner), decided to renovate and modernize the look of Nicky’s on the Bay. The renovation added indoor seating with a retractable roof. I have never seen a roof like this in any restaurant before. When the weather is warm and not too windy, the roof can be open and if bad weather should strike, it is easy to close and still obtain that outdoor feeling. Nick also added a rooftop bar that has wonderful views of the Bay. Unfortunately, I’ve only been to Nicky’s on the Bay with the family so have not checked out the new rooftop bar yet. I’m sure Nick did an amazing job to that as well.
Every time I dine at Nicky’s on the Bay I order the Clam Bisque. All of the soups are homemade and you can taste the freshness of the ingredients. The bisque is creamy and the clams are large but tender.
The tuna tacos are another must have dish at Nicky's on the Bay. The tacos are served in a corn tortilla with an Asian mango slaw and a spicy mayo. I really enjoy the contrast of the crunch in the tortilla with the softness of the tuna. The Asian mango slaw and spicy mayo give a nice sweet and spicy flavor to the dish.
