Summer Event and Nothing to Wear!

dress photo 2.jpg

Two weeks ago we attended a family wedding and I had the hardest time finding a dress to wear! I have several dresses in my closet, but I wanted to find something new and fresh for this event.

I ordered one dress online that looked amazing on the model and looked like a dance recital outfit on me! Then I decided to check out some local stores and found NOTHING! I wound up running out of time and wore a dress I already owned.

More and more of my friends have been having conversations about the lack of inventory in stores and their inability to find anything they want to wear to events. They wind up like me and just wear something they already own in their closet.

Since the options in stores are so scarce, your only choice is to order online. The problem with online ordering is that you don’t know how items are going to fit and 9 out of 10 times, you wind up returning your order. One trick that I find works well is to order items from designers you know and trust. This way you are comfortable with sizing and more likely to keep the items you ordered.

I decided to get to work and hunt down my favorite designers to help you find something to wear for your next event. I’ve included sizing and fit information to help you lessen those returns!

Dress -Alice & Olivia

Starting things off with one of my favorite designers - Alice & Olivia. This designer is more on the expensive side but the quality is well worth the price tag. This sparkly dress is perfect for a special date night, cocktail party or even a wedding. It is a classic look and silhouette which makes it a great investment piece. I am wearing a size 2 in this dress, so I would say it runs true to size.

Dress - Bardot

Bardot can be found in almost any department store and it is a great affordable option. They carry everything from casual to formal dresses, so you can be sure to find something for any type of event. The dress I am wearing is an X-small but I would definitely have been more comfortable in a small. PS - This dress is very fitted so some Spanx might be a good idea!

Dress - Aqua

Aqua is Bloomingdales Private Label and they carry on-trend affordable pieces. I love Aqua because it is great quality and a lot of their line looks very similar to more expensive counterparts. I am wearing a size Small in this dress and it fits true to size.

Jumpsuit - BCBG

One of my favorite brands for dresses and jumpsuits, BCBG never disappoints. I have been wearing BCBG for over a decade and it is always one of the first designers I look for when I am shopping for a formal event. I love jumpsuits for pretty much any occasion, and they are a perfect choice if you aren’t going to a black tie event. When I tried this jumpsuit on, the store had limited inventory so I am wearing an XXS. It is definitely too tight and an Xsmall would’ve been perfect.
