Birthday Night In

This past weekend was my birthday and my husband had been planning a celebration for months. We don’t ever travel without the kids, but every year, my sister-in-law watches the kids for one night so we can sleep out. The plan was to head to the city Friday night for a weekend away. However, things did not work out as planned!

It all started 2 weeks ago after my husband and I went to a friend’s holiday party. We had a fun night out, and when we got home we heard my son calling for the sitter. I went upstairs to carry him back to bed and he felt extremely warm. I took his temperature and he wound up having 102.7! The next couple of days were a little rough as it turned out that he had the flu.

Fast forward to this past Friday and my daughter woke up with a fever. No school for her, no city for us. We weren’t sure if she had the flu as well and we couldn’t chance my sister-in-law getting sick or us not being around if she needed us. We had to cancel all our plans - hotel, dinner at Jean George and tickets to a show.

Then came plan #2 - a nice dinner at home, prepared by my personal chef (Alan) - and I couldn’t have been happier. Below is the amazing meal he prepared!

First course - Home made Belini’s with Crème fraîche and Caviar. I couldn’t believe he made these Belini’s himself! They were so light and fluffy and the perfect way to start the meal.

Second Course - Blue Cheese Stuffed Dates wrapped in Bacon with a Balsamic Drizzle. This dish is the perfect combination of salty and sweet. The Blue Cheese adds a wonderful creaminess to the Dates and the Bacon adds that amazing texture and saltiness. Overall, a truly decadent bite!

Third Course - Mozzarella and Fontina Grilled Cheese topped with Truffle Infused Honey. If I could only eat one dish for the rest of my life, this would be it! There was so much flavor in this dish between the Artisan bread, the amazing combination of cheeses and of course the topper - Truffle Infused Honey.

Fourth Course - Seared Scallops with a Honey Dijon Avocado Mousse. Scallops are one of my favorite seafood dishes because they are so light and just require a little amount of seasoning. The addition of the Mousse brought in another level of flavor and completed the dish nicely.

Fifth Course - Chocolate Ganache Cake! My husband did not make this dish but what’s a birthday without a little cake! I love these little cute personal cakes because my husband is not a chocolate fan but I am. The little cakes are a perfect size for one person - no sharing required!

Have to end this article by giving a huge thanks to my husband! Not only did he make an amazing meal, but he humored me by taking these photos for the blog! He is so not a picture person but it was part of my birthday present!
