Kerber's Farm - Huntington, NY

Summer and lobster rolls go hand and hand. The beautiful weather makes you want to eat something light and fresh and there is no better dish that accomplishes that than the lobster roll. I’ve had many lobster rolls in my life and by far my favorite was located in Maine. That was until I discovered Kerber’s Farm in Huntington, Long Island!

Kerber’s Farm was a well-known family farm stand that opened in 1941. Over the years the farm became unprofitable and was set to be knocked down and turned into residential development. In 2013, Nick Voulgaris III purchased the property and restored Kerber’s Farm to the beautiful farm stand that it is today.

Everything at Kerber’s Farm is homemade. The menu highlights their famous chicken pot pies, egg sandwiches, mac and cheese pies, lobster rolls and when I went to visit a special anniversary sandwich. In addition to the food menu, Kerber’s Farm also has a beautiful baked goods section. The pastry chef Danna Abrams used to work at Momofuku Milk Bar - so you know she understands how to make a good pastry!

There are also other goodies at Kerber’s Farm such as their own line of homemade jams and preserves, homemade pancake and scone mixes and even their own olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

For this article, I visited Kerber’s Farm twice. The first time I picked up an amazing lobster roll. The lobster was so tender with just the right amount of mayo. The bread was absolutely perfect. It was toasted perfectly and was able to hold all the lobster without becoming soggy. The bread can make or break a lobster roll and I could’ve easily eaten another one!

The second time I visited Kerber’s Farm was to pick up some pies for Father’s Day. Kerber’s Farm offers mini pies and large pies. By the time I got there on Father’s Day, most of the mini pies were gone. I decided to pick up the large Key Lime pie and the large S’mores pie because I felt between the two flavors, I would be able to satisfy everyone’s taste preferences. I also picked up the anniversary sandwich for myself when I ordered the pies.

The anniversary sandwich consists of potato chip chicken, cheddar cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and Russian dressing on a cheddar biscuit. All the components were delicious on their own but together worked beautifully. I really enjoyed the contrast in texture between the crispy bacon and the soft buttery biscuit. It was actually quite a heavy sandwich so I could only eat half and kept the other half to bring home to the hubby!

Both of the pies were a huge success for Father’s Day. The s’mores pie was rich and decadent and I absolutely loved the ooey gooey marshmallows. It was a little difficult to cut but so worth the work! The key lime pie was refreshing and was a little tart. The crust was fresh and buttery and you could taste the quality of care that went into creating it.

It’s so nice to have a farm stand close to home with a rich history and quality products. With so many great menu items to try, I will be spending a lot of time at Kerber's Farm this summer!
