Ocean Restaurant - Bayville NY

Ocean Restaurant - Bayville NY

With the summer coming to a close, I’m trying to soak up the last couple of warm nights by dining at outdoor restaurants. When I think about restaurants on Long Island that have outdoor dining, there is one restaurant that stands above all the rest. That restaurant is Ocean.

Upon entering Ocean, diners are escorted into the main dining room. This room is very nice and open but in order to really appreciate what Ocean is all about, you must dine on the outdoor terrace. The terrace overlooks a patio filled with gorgeous palm trees, a sandy beach and the Long Island Sound. The view is beyond spectacular and you will instantly feel transported to an island getaway.

The menu at Ocean is based on using seasonal and organic ingredients, so it is constantly evolving throughout the year. Since I visited during the summer, there were a lot of seafood dishes on the menu which seemed perfect given the view.

We started our meal with the crab cocktail. I love crab but don't always want to fight with the shells, so it is nice when all the work is done for me! The crab pieces were large and so wonderfully tender. The best part of this dish had to be the spicy mayo. I really enjoyed the spicy creaminess that it brought to the crab.

For the entrees I ordered the scallops and my husband ordered the salmon. The presentation on the scallops was simply stunning. The scallops were served over sweet potatoes and I really enjoyed the flavor combination.  I would never have thought to pair the two but they worked together nicely. The dish also included oranges and tempura fried mango. The oranges brought in a nice acidity and the mango finished off the dish with the texture that it needed.

The salmon also looked beautiful as it was perched upon pineapple basmati rice and topped with a vibrant summer slaw. The stand out component of this dish had to be the white chocolate sauce! It was such a fun and different sauce to serve with salmon. I really enjoyed the flavor it brought out in all of the other ingredients.

We decided to finish our meal by sharing a creamsicle mousse. I'm happy to say that the final dish of the evening kept up the standard and showcased its own beautiful presentation as well. The mousse was creatively served in an orange rind and topped with whipped cream. The mousse was so light and refreshing and a perfect way to end the meal.

Ocean showcases the most beautiful views of any restaurant that I have visited on Long Island. In addition to the beautiful view, you can expect to see beautiful food as well.  It is the perfect place to unwind after a busy week and feel like you are on vacation for a couple of hours!
